In the 1500’s, representatives from many countries including Spain were traveling around the world in an effort to find and establish new colonies in parts yet undiscovered. In the year 1565 a Spanish Admiral and explorer from Spain named named Pedro Menendez arrived on the shores of what would become St. Augustine Florida and America’s oldest city was born. Founded in September of that year, St. Augustine is considered the longest continuously inhabited European founded city in America. Throughout history, wars, battles, slavery, emancipation, civil rights, religion and millions of people from around the world have helped shape this culturally rich and diverse destination for travel. Considered one of Florida’s most exciting destinations for travel, 2015 is expected to be one you won’t want to miss. Celebrate 450 years of history with St. Augustine in 2015.
